Loquendo Launches Voice Biometrics for Telephone Interceptions

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Speech technology provider Loquendo (News - Alert) has announced the release of a next-generation voice biometric solution for the security sector, “Voice Analysis Run-Time Server” (VARS), that it says can identify telephone conversations of “investigative” interest, happening offline or in real-time.

The company’s intelligence solutions offer the ability for law enforcement agencies to create filters that identify relevant communications for an investigation.

Voice biometrics, like a fingerprint or iris scan, provides a viable way to positively identify an individual because each person’s voice is authentic based on various components.

Earlier this year, Davide Franco (News - Alert), Loquendo’s CEO, told TMCnet that the Voice Biometrics sector has evolved “considerably” for both Speaker Verification (SV) and Speaker Identification (SI).

“The identification of voice characteristics is useful for many applications, both in commercial applications to enable more secure transactions, and in the intelligence sector to support classified operations,” said Franco.

Loquendo is presenting their VARS offering at the upcoming TechFOr 2009 event in Rome, Italy highlighting Defense, Civil Protection and Homeland security technologies.

"Loquendo Intelligence Solutions have reached a level of technological maturity that makes them highly effective tools for assisting the daily operations of law enforcement agencies in their global fight against organized crime and terrorism," said Luciano Piovano, Loquendo VP for Government Intelligence Solutions.

"To that end, I would like to thank the TechFOr organizing committee and the Italian Carabinieri for this special opportunity to showcase some of the most advanced developments that our national industry has been able to create for Intelligence Communications Analysis in the investigative sector."

Just last week, Loquendo made headlines with the announcement that Raytheon (News - Alert) Company, a provider of technology solutions for the defense, homeland security and other government markets, would integrate Loquendo’s Voice Security Library (LVSL) into the company’s Redwolf Collection System.

This will help agencies with faster processing of data from all communications sources by filtering the data and identifying voices, languages and the gender of the speaker.
