Speech technologies are being increasingly utilized today for the ability to make it easier to control devices like mobile phones or in-car devices. Now, speech technology has also made its way into the home with the introduction of Sophius, a fully voice- controlled oven from Indesit Company.

 

The prototype of Sophius was presented by the company as its latest concept and makes use of Loquendo (News - Alert) TTS and Amuser, a multimedia solutions provider, to allow users to interact with the oven using their natural voice to command Sophius on the temperature and cooking time. For example, "Cook pizza at 180 degrees for 20 minutes."

 

"With Amuser's groundbreaking VUI solution, Loquendo expands its presence into Home Automation - a relatively new sector for speech technology," says Paolo Coppo, Loquendo VP for Marketing and Business Development.

 

 "Loquendo is always searching for new and innovative applications for its technologies and the Sophius voice-controlled oven brings a new generation of VUI into the domestic environment, taking the strain out of household tasks."

 

Sophius helps to improve the quality of life at home through the use of speech technology and according to Indesit, is the result of the needs and wishes of consumers, as well as intensive research and design.
