In a bid to increase usability for wireless customers who are blind or have low vision, AT&T (News - Alert) Inc. has announced the availability of two new applications, Mobile Speak and Mobile Magnifier.
The offerings, for Windows Mobile and Symbian (News - Alert) Series 60 operating system devices, are the result of a partnership with Code Factory, a software company "committed to the development of products designed to remove barriers to the accessibility of mobile technology for the blind and visually impaired."
Paul Schroeder, vice president of Programs and Policy, American Foundation for the Blind commented on AT&T's latest announcement, "There is a real need for more wireless options for individuals who have vision loss. We value AT&T for its leadership in addressing the needs of this community."
With Mobile Speak, a screen reader with an easy-to-learn command structure, speech feedback in several languages as well as Braille support and comes with a choice between English, Spanish or both languages from three Text-To-Speech engines (Fonix, Acapela or Loquendo (News - Alert))
For those who have lower vision, the Mobile Magnifier offers full-screen magnification for both low- and high-resolution screens and can also be used with or without speech feedback.
Both of the new solutions are available for a one-time charge of $89.
