Nuance and Analog Devices: Advanced Automotive Platform

By Stefania Viscusi, TMCnet Assistant Editor

Broadening their speech-enabled offerings for the automotive industry, Nuance Communications, provider of speech applications and solutions, announced recently the expansion of their relationship with Analog Devices, Inc.

As per the expanded partnership, Nuance (News - Alert) and Analog Devices will work together to bring speech-enabled solutions with an advanced automotive platform for an in-car experience that is hands and eyes free and uses ones voice to navigate and communicate while in the car.

A recent news release noted, "With Nuance speech solutions embedded on the ADI platform, drivers benefit from hands-free eyes-free use of Bluetooth enabled phones. Calls can be initiated or recovered using voice commands and voice activated dialing, rather than using the traditional keypad."

Blackfin Car Telematics platform, which also includes the Blackfin Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit, combines hands free in-car communications and the power of speech to allow one to use their voice for destination entry as well as readout for navigation systems, the news release noted.

The telematics platform utilizes one Blackfin processor, which includes speech recognition, text-to-speech, and other telematic system features combined on one platform-- making it easier and reducing the cost, size and development time. All these factors will also make it easier to include more cars with speech-enabled solutions than ever before.

Leading suppliers that have already integrated the platform were outlined in a recent news release. European in-car communication manufacturer Bury GmbH & Co., German manufacturer PEIKER acustic and OEM supplier paragon  fidelity GmbH all detailed their utilization of the platform and Hands-free car kits to offer convenience and safety while driving as well as answer to the increasing need to integrate mobile communications into automobiles.

"Our extensive partnership with Analog Devices has enabled our joint customers to develop hands-free solutions more than 30 percent faster. The reference design has been created not only to show the power of our joint solution but also to meet the cars makers' requirements for a fast project execution with less project cycles," commented Craig Peddie, vice president and general manager, embedded speech, Nuance in a statement to the press.
