Flexera Finalizes Secunia Acquisition

Security is paramount in the enterprise, and one of the most effective ways of providing protection from cybercriminals is via vulnerability detection. Whether it is an internal or external threat, the consequences of an attack can be quite real and devastatingly penal. According to IDC (News - Alert) research, nearly 70 percent of threats leverage vulnerabilities to do their dirty work. And, the cost of a breach is normally in the range of $2.5 to $5 million—with exceptions like the recent attacks of Best Buy, Sony or Target (News - Alert) where the price could exceed $500 million.

Today, Flexera Software announced the acquisition of Secunia, an industry leader in the provision of software vulnerability management. Secunia (News - Alert) holds its expertise in identifying application vulnerabilities, prioritizing risks and resolving them through the use of security patches typically.

"As cybersecurity threats continue to grow, leading companies will not only proactively manage these threats but will also integrate Software Vulnerability Management into core software asset management processes," noted Mark Bishof, Flexera Software's Chief Executive Officer. "Secunia's products deliver the Software Vulnerability Management capabilities enterprises urgently need today while complementing our existing market-leading solutions for Software License Optimization and Application Readiness."

Secunia’s products include its Vulnerability Intelligence Manager, which delivers accurate, comprehensive and verified reporting and alerts, and its Corporate Software Inspector, which affords IT teams with a complete assessment of software vulnerabilities that includes bottom line friendly patching and an overall reduction in risk.

This recent acquisition aids Flexera in providing end-to-end management throughout the software lifecycle, continuing to provide exceptional software compliance management while now offering industry leading threat detection.

"Being a part of Flexera Software represents the next stage of growth for Secunia's employees, customers and partners," said Peter Colsted, Secunia's Chief Executive Officer. "The synergies from this acquisition will enable enterprises to more proactively address cybersecurity threats as a core part of their processes for managing application usage."

Much like a first place team making a key trade at the deadline, this move could prove to take Flexera over the top, in this case, by making defense a priority. Today, the enterprise is always putting security front and center, and thanks in large part to its new acquisition, Flexera is in the spotlight.
