Enabling New Software Licensing and Usage Models for Intelligent Devices

September 18, 2012

Applications no longer just help the business, they run the business, and to software producers and intelligent device manufacturers, they are the business. Flexera Software is a provider of strategic solutions for Application Usage Management. More than 3,000 software vendors and intelligence device manufacturers rely on its comprehensive Licensing, Entitlement Management and Delivery suite of software licensing, entitlement management, electronic software delivery, software updates and compliance management solutions as core components of a strategic solution for Application Usage Management.

In a recent blog post on Flexera Software’s site by Ripin Checker, Flexera’s director of strategy and solutions engineering, Checker reflected on a keynote session by Intel’s (News - Alert) executive vice president and general manager of the Intel Architecture Group (IAG) David Perlmutter, which was given at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2012. The focus of this keynote address was on “Reinventing Computing- Collaborating to Shape the Future From Datacenter to Devices.”

According to the blogger, Intel’s Perlmutter was making a case on how the chip maker is transforming itself from a semiconductor company to a platform company that works with its partners to provide the market with integrated hardware and software solutions.

As per the blog, the Intel executive spent most of the time on identifying different solution trends and how “Intel Inside” truly reflects on this new emerging trend. Checker wrote, “I was amazed to hear that the first smartphone based on Intel Atom architecture was launched by MegaFon (News - Alert).” Continuing, the blogger indicated that it signals a big transition for Intel from desktop/servers to intelligent connected devices. In addition, it also shows that Intel is working closely with its partners to deliver an integrated solution to the end application.

In fact, the blog post suggests that partnerships are vital to Intel’s success. Perlmutter’s keynote recognizes the fact that Intel needs collaboration with partners to move forward because there is a growing need to connect today’s intelligent devices to the cloud and provide a connectivity fabric for different applications to talk to each other. Hence, to be a major player in the upcoming machine-to-machine (M2M) communications market, also known as the Internet of Things (IoT), Intel is collaborating with partners.

Checker wrote that this message rings well with Flexera Software, since the company is a member of Intel’s Intelligent Systems Alliance and works with many intelligent device manufacturers to license, protect and monetize their applications with Flexera Software licensing solutions. Thus, enabling intelligent device manufacturers to drive revenue growth in the M2M and IoT space, wrote Checker.

Flexera Software’s Licensing, Entitlement Management and Delivery solutions include FlexNet Producer Suite for intelligent device manufacturers and software vendors, FlexNet Embedded, FlexNet Publisher, FlexNet Operations, FlexNet Connect and FlexNet Delivery.
