Chargers Quarterback Launches Twitter Campaign to Support Foundation

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Social media has become the communication tool of choice for many a consumer and the sports fan is sure not to be overlooked. For the 2011 football season, Chargers fans can ask quarterback Philip Rivers questions via the microblogging site Twitter (News - Alert).

According to a release, this campaign is part of the “Ask Philip” feature, developed by the Rivers of Hope Foundation, the official charitable foundation of Philip Rivers and Verizon Wireless.

Each week, questions can be sent to @AskPhilip and one question will be selected and answered by Philips (News - Alert) on video at PhilipRivers.com. This feature will enable fans to interact with Rivers and heighten attention for those programs supported by the Rivers of Hope Foundation.

The foundation seeks to find permanent and loving homes for children in the foster care system within San Diego County. The foundation supports programs that provide children within the system hope for a brighter future and to help place them in homes that can become their family.

The goal of the “Ask Philip” feature is to increase visibility and engagement with fans through social media channels. Questions can be submitted via Twitter, while they will be answered and distributed via YouTube.

Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless is also partnering with the foundation and the star quarterback in launching and supporting this initiative. The company is known for its 4G network and standard of quality customer service.

In other social media news, TMCnet reported earlier that Google might be working on a Flipboard clone. The company is known for working on the ideas of others to generate new revenue streams. It is through the Google (News - Alert)+ social media platform that tech evangelist Robert Scoble selected to introduce the rumor that Google may in fact be working on a Flipboard clone for both the iPad and the Android (News - Alert).

Social media insight is sure to gain a boost from this latest news from Qwestback. The European company known for its focus on Enterprise Feedback Management (EFM), has ramped reportedly up its social CRM offering with the launch of QuestBack Social Insight.

“With QuestBack Social Insight there is finally a new way to create tangible business value from Facebook fans. The resulting insights can be used to influence future interactions, product development and brand strategy,” said Ivar Kroghrud, CEO of QuestBack, in a company statement.

Companies continue to leverage social media to drive new campaigns, engaging with customers and capturing valuable information. There is still considerable opportunity in this space and we have only begun to see it come to fruition.
