Since entering the small cells market over a year ago, Taqua (News - Alert) has certainly already gained traction and shown it is a key player in the industry with its small cell core and small cell backhaul solutions. To further maintain its position in the market, the company has partnered with Public Wireless to provide an even more complete small cells solution.

Today, in Las Vegas at the 20th Annual Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) convention, Taqua and Public Wireless made an announcement that together the two companies have deployed an outdoor small cell solution at reduced capital expenditure and operational costs of more than 50 percent compared to the traditional 3G/4G wireless macro deployment alternatives.

Public Wireless is known for providing a full line of IP backhauled small cell solutions that are based on its Intelligent Cell Platform technology, making the collaboration a no-brainer for Taqua. Public Wireless’ extensive experience in cell deployment services enables service providers to maintain a seamless network, while managing handovers, load balancing, and delivering 3G and 4G coverage and capacity to their end-customers

“By partnering with Public Wireless, Taqua can now deliver a full, end-to-end indoor and outdoor small cell solutions that change the economics of upgrading to 3G or 4G networks,” said Payam Maveddat (News - Alert), Taqua’s EVP of product management. “By utilizing small cell technology, for both indoor and outdoor applications, carriers can not only save in deployment costs but also increase coverage and capacity by taking the cell site exactly where it’s needed.”

By utilizing Taqua’s small cell core in conjunction with the turn-key small cell service solution from Public Wireless, the two companies have successfully deployed a cluster of outdoor small cells delivering the coverage and capacity of a traditional macrocell, according to a recent statement.

The Public Wireless outdoor small cell and deployment services utilize locally available broadband IP connectivity to remotely connect to Taqua’s small cell core. A single Public Wireless small cell can cover up to three square miles and hundreds of registered users. Taqua’s small cell core acts as an IMS-overlay into the carriers existing macro network (2G or 3G), extending the small cell-served subscribers all the existing macro network features and functionality required.

According to the companies, while every small cell outdoor deployment will differ based on subscriber requirements and topology among other factors, small cells can reduce deployment costs by 50 percent to 75 percent compared to traditional 3G or 4G upgrades through additional macrocell deployment.

By creating a joint deployment, a cluster of three Public Wireless small cells were utilized to gain the necessary outdoor coverage eliminating the need for additional macros, and at the same time Taqua’s small cell core simultaneously supported indoor small cells to deliver coverage and capacity within residential and business locations.

”Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have a challenging task ahead of them with respect to enhancing their 3G/4G networks. They need to satisfy the service availability demands of their smartphone equipped customers while meeting coverage and capacity goals in their networks. We are offering the perfect mix of technology and services to not only equip the MNOs with the right small cells but also provide a full turn-key approach to help with their deployment and small cell management needs,” said Murat Erkam, VP of product management at Public Wireless.
