Broadband VoIP provider 8x8, Inc. and chip maker Legerity, Inc. are partnering to develop a turnkey phone-ready solution for PC original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Once complete, the solution offered by the two companies will enables PC vendors to bundle 8x8’s Packet8 voice and video phone services with existing product platforms in order to make VoIP more accessible to the end-user.
8x8 and Legerity’s turnkey solution combines Packet8 VoIP service, a Legerity PCI PhonePort adapter card, and 8x8’s SIP softphone product (Softalk). The solution is intended for use with Packet8 residential, video, and Virtual Office Internet phone services.
For the end-user, the solution makes it possible to plug an existing analog phone into a pre-configured PC and immediately begin using an Internet phone service, 8x8 said in a press release.
“The new Packet8 solution offers immediate time to market and design flexibility for PC vendors to start marketing bundled carrier-class VoIP service to consumers and businesses around the world,” said Shoaib Mohammad, director of business development at Legerity, in the press release.
8x8’s vice president of strategic alliances, Christopher Peters, added: “The capability for users to plug their regular telephone into a PC's built-in phone port and immediately begin using Packet8 service is an attractive selling point that PC vendors can capitalize on in their marketing efforts.”
