PC manufacturer Systemax announced it will be bringing VoIP
to the masses via an exclusive offer on select desktop personal computer packages it will sell, thanks to a partnership it just inked with video and VoIP provider 8x8 (News - Alert).
The offering is comprised of 8x8's Packet8 Softalk voice and video softphone coupled with select Systemax VoIP Desktop Personal Computers, starting at $299 after rebate. The systems will be available exclusively through TigerDirect.com.
Packet8 Softalk-enabled Systemax PCs will allow users to make and receive voice and video calls directly from their personal computers by plugging a regular analog phone into the computer's built-in phone port. Packet8 Softalk users can also call other Packet8 VideoPhone subscribers while traveling without needing to carry along a separate device.
TigerDirect.com will offer a $50 mail-in rebate to customers who purchase Systemax VoIP-enabled PCs including models Venture H352V, Venture HU H531V and Venture HU B531V from today through December 31, 2006. After the rebate, the PCs range in price from $299.99 to $599.99.
Today's news follows 8x8's partnership with online marketing provider Broadband National announced on Friday to also market VoIP-based services. Via the new partnership, Broadband National will be able to offer its residential and business customers with 8x8's suite of Internet telephone and videophone services.
The deal will also allow 8x8 to refer its customers needing broadband to complete their VoIP installation to Broadband National's online comparative shopping Web site, or directly to one of Broadband National's call centers.
