VoIP and video service provider 8x8 announced today that it was awarded U.S. Patent No. 7,092,379 for technology used in routing telephony signals over the Internet and standard switched telephone communications networks. This patent brings 8x8’s list to a total of 62 patents awarded in the U.S.
“This is the second fundamental VoIP technology patent 8x8 has received this summer, reflective of the pioneering research and development advances 8x8 has produced dating back to the early days of VoIP,” said 8x8’s chairman and chief executive officer, Bryan Martin, in a statement.
Martin added: “8x8 has been inventing VoIP-specific technologies since before 1998 and communications technologies, in general, since 1990. 8x8 continues to pursue VoIP-related technological advances and new inventions today as embodied by the services offered under our Packet8 voice and video communications service brand.”
The VoIP and video service provider also announced today the launch of an on-site installation service program for its Packet8 Virtual Office VoIP hosted PBX phone service.
The company announced it joined forces with CompUSA in order to give Virtual Office subscribers nationwide the opportunity to elect to have their service professionally installed by one of CompUSA's "Techknowledgists." CompUSA has a network of 20,000 certified technicians nationwide who provide consumers and businesses with support throughout the U.S.
The technicians will perform services including system configuration, site verification, ping test, latency and bandwidth calculator, equipment installation, connection to company's high speed Internet line, IP address configuration, extension programming, service activation and employee orientation on service features and functions.
The new service will be available as an option to Virtual Office subscribers at a cost of $199 for the first three phones installations per site and $49 for each additional phone installation.
