8x8 Intros Packet8 Virtual Office Business On-Site Installation

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

VoIP and video service provider 8x8 introduced on Wednesday an on-site installation service program for its Packet8 Virtual Office VoIP- hosted PBX phone service.

The company announced it joined forces with CompUSA in order to give Virtual Office subscribers nationwide the opportunity to elect to have their service professionally installed by one of CompUSA's Techknowledgists. CompUSA has a network of 20,000 certified technicians nationwide who provide consumers and businesses with support throughout the U.S.

"Many small businesses cannot afford to take any time away from their day- to-day responsibilities to deal with setting up or managing their telecommunications services," said 8x8's vice president of sales & marketing Huw Rees in a statement. "The Packet8 Virtual Office hosted PBX service was designed to address these limitations and, by offering professional on-site installation through CompUSA Techknowledgist Services, we are further minimizing the time our subscribers need to allocate toward getting their phone systems up and running."

Virtual Office installation technicians will perform services including system configuration, site verification, ping test, latency and bandwidth calculator, equipment installation, connection to company's high speed Internet line, IP address configuration, extension programming, service activation and employee orientation on service features and functions. The service will be available as an option to Virtual Office subscribers at a cost of $199 for the first three phones installations per site and $49 for each additional phone installation.

The VoIP and video service provider made news earlier this month when it introduced the Packet8 Softalk, a video-enabled SIP softphone for use with Packet8 voice and video Internet phone services.

Packet8 Softalk will allow subscribers to make and receive voice and video phone calls directly from their personal computers. Along with traditional landlines and cell phones, Softalk users can also call Packet8 VideoPhone subscribers to carryout video communications when traveling without needing to tote along a separate device.
