8x8 (News - Alert), Inc., best known for its Packet8 broadband VoIP , as well as videophone and mobile VoIP communication services, has been awarded its latest patent, according to a company announcement today.
Having to do with an arrangement for controlling audio signal transmissions for a communications system that includes a microphone and a video camera, the new patent is officially dated February 12, 2008. It contains a total of eleven new claims, which will serve to strengthen 8x8’s intellectual property rights with relation to this invention.
The patent is number RE40,054, being a reissue of the original, United States Patent No. 6,483,532. The title of the patent is, "Video-Assisted Audio Signal Processing System and Method."
Issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the patent is added to 8X8’s impressive catalogue of inventions covering a wide array of storage technologies, as well as video and voice communications. In fact, since its establishment 21 years ago, the company has been given seventy-one United States patents, spanning a wide array of video and voice storage and communications technologies.
8x8 recently surpassed an important milestone according to its quarterly report earlier this month, with more than 10,000 companies subscribed to the Packet8 Virtual Office services suite as of December 31. The company also posted an all-time record quarterly revenue of $15.8M. And for the second time this fiscal year, 8x8 reported a profitable quarter, with GAAP net income of $1.4M, or $0.02 per share.
