VoSKY Inks Deal to Bring Skype for Business to Canada

By Erik Linask, Associate Editor,
Internet Telephony magazine

The market penetration Skype (News - Alert) has been able to achieve in a relatively short period of time is quite remarkable — especially when considering it has done so in both the consumer and business markets. Skype’s success, of course, is validated by the number of third-party vendors that have developed products and solutions to work in conjunction with Skype to enable enhanced communications features, particularly in the business space.

The difficulty many of them face, however, is bringing their product to market — most of these vendors do not have the clout of a Cisco or a Polycom (News - Alert) or an Avaya. Because of this, they must find alternative channels through which to attract buyers.

VoSKY (News - Alert) Technologies, maker of Skype for Business solutions, including the VoSKY Exchange gateway connecting corporate PBXs to Skype, have signed a deal with telecom distributor White Radio in an effort to increase its penetration via White Radio’s extensive VAR network throughout Canada.

“We see great potential in the Canadian VoIP market and are excited to partner with White Radio to capitalize on this growing opportunity,” said David Tang, vice president of Global Marketing for VoSKY Technologies.

Through the partnership, a large number of Canadian SMBs will have a newfound alternative for deploying VoIP services without a large initial overhead investment or installation difficulties. In fact, all they need to do is connect the VoSKY Exchange to an existing PBX and they’re virtually ready to Skype. VoSKY Exchange, in fact, is the only enterprise-class PBX (News - Alert)-to-Skype gateway that has been officially certified by Skype for seamless interoperability. Each of the five Exchange models has been tested for seamless integration with any TDM or IP PBX phone system through analog trunk or station ports.

As such, it is guaranteed to optimize the Skype application without additional changes to the existing PBX or other equipment — other than configuration of the Exchange appliance. VoSKY put control of Skype usage solely in the hands of network managers through an easy to use centralized provisioning and management interface.

Once installed, the VoSKY Exchange provides Skype connectivity to each office extension, allowing all users to make and receive Skype calls on their deskphones rather than by using a PC and headset.

Because of its capacity to shrink long distance calling bills, its price point, its ease of use, the VoSKY Exchange is growing in demand quickly, which is why the partnership is an important milestone for both VoSKY and White Radio. Together, the two will bring the world’s largest VoIP community to the Canadian business market, including security features that both enable calling through corporate firewalls, yet do not otherwise endanger the network.

“There is strong VoIP demand in the business community, but many companies that are not ready to upgrade to a full-blown IP PBX want a solution that offers more than office-to-office VoIP calling,” said Jack Van Kessel, President and General Manager of White Radio.  “VoSKY Exchange is a unique solution that fills that need seamlessly and inexpensively.”

The VoSKY Exchange products provide a complementary solution to the expansive VoIP product line White Radio already distributes, including a range of products and solutions from Avaya (News - Alert), Allot, Talkswitch, and nearly 20 other vendors.
