Network Hardware Resale (NHR (News - Alert)), a company providing pre-owned and new networking equipment, today announced that one of the nation’s largest independent suppliers of next-generation and traditional communications products and services, Excel Telecommunications, is utilizing the company’s services.

 

With the increasing demand for network expansion and expedited technical support, Excel is leveraging NHR’s pre-ownedCisco and Juniper equipment along with the company’s NetSure alternative hardware maintenance.

 

Irving, Texas-based Excel provides long distance, international, local and pre-paid telephone services nationwide. The company maintains the nation’s largest Feature Group D network, giving customers a choice when selecting their long distance network.

 

By selecting NHR, Excel can rest assured that its customers will review superior products and services. NHR plays a crucial role in ensuring the telco can provide superior services from its core network, which is distributed across 11 switching centers throughout the country.

 

Excel invests heavily in Cisco (News - Alert) and Juniper equipment to power its rapidly expanding network. The company also relied on Cisco SMARTnet maintenance to protect its core equipment and provide technical assistance. After encountering delays in obtaining critical replacement equipment from traditional OEM procurement channels, Excel turned to NHR to avert potential network downtime. With more than $200 million in equipment inventory, NHR was able to deliver the equipment Excel needed overnight—at prices up to 90 percent off OEMs’ list.

 

Jim Connolly, senior network manager for Excel Telecommunications (News - Alert), said that NHR has simplified the equipment upgrade and replacement process.

 

“Fast turnaround is crucial for us. The faster we get what we need, the faster we can put the products in our production network. That means no bandwidth limitations for our customers, which makes everyone happy,” he explained.

 

Excel has been utilizing NHR’s NetSure alternative hardware maintenance program to help protect previous-generation and end-of-life equipment. NetSure enables Excel to make one call for maintenance on both its Cisco and Juniper equipment, and the company can do this even if the gear was not originally purchased from NHR. Excel predicts it will save approximately 60 percent with NetSure when comparing it to competing solutions. Excel also estimates that its total savings from purchasing top-quality, like-new network equipment from NHR exceeds $750,000.

 

Mike Sheldon, president and CEO of NHR, explained that looking for an alternative source for quick equipment replacement and affordable maintenance are major concerns for many companies, especially during challenging times.

Network service providers are increasingly looking for new ways to manage heavy Internet traffic flow on their client’s network. In an effort to save money, consumers are turning to the Internet to download video and large movies instead of buying them in a store. The conventional methods of network management will soon not be enough to handle tnetwork traffic demands.
