Sagem-Interstar Promotes "Green" Fax over IP

By Michelle Robart, TMCnet Editor

Advanced fax services provider, Sagem-Interstar (News - Alert), has announced the release of its new “green” white paper, “Fax over IP (FoIP) Driven Green Solutions Make Business Sense.”FoIP-Driven Green Solutions White Paper

The white paper discusses how with just one piece of software, enterprises can reduce their environmental impact, as well as increase efficiency and save money.

Sagem-Interstar's fax server software solutions help companies become more eco (News - Alert)-friendly by moving them from paper to digital workflows. This significantly reduces overall paper use and generates positive environmental benefits.

For example, in a large company (30,000 employees sending/receiving an average of two pages per day) Sagem-Interstar's network fax solutions can eliminate up to one ton of paper use per day – or up to 200 tons a year.

Adopting a Fax over IP solution, such as Sagem-Interstar’s XMediusFAX, also saves water. Research reveals that more than 7 million liters of fresh water are required to produce a year's worth of paper – enough to fill a city reservoir.

Fax over IP services also help preserve forests. Over two years, a large company’s fax paper usage could typically consume a forest equal in size to New York Central Park, or 843 acres, according to EPA statistics.

In addition, making just one day's worth of paper for fax uses enough electricity to power the average home for six months. Manufacturing one day's worth of paper for fax generates 60 lbs. of toxic pollutants. That's 12,000 lbs. in a single year.

Reducing paper demand helps preserve wild habitat, water and air quality. It also reduces the emission of persistent organic pollutants such as dioxins.

Implementing Fax over IP in the workplace means less noise and heat from fax machines, less exposure to paper dust and fine particles of potentially toxic toner. Less paper waste means less landfill, too.

Reducing an organization's impact on the environment through fax also means a positive impact on its bottom line.

In a large enterprise, reducing faxing and fax-related printing translates into savings of $2 million or more per year. That is money that could easily be spent on improving or enhancing another part of a business.

Moreover, by eliminating obsolete, single-function fax machines, a large organization can also save hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on electricity, leasing costs and maintenance contracts.

Sagem-Interstar’s new white paper is available for immediate download by clicking on the green nature icon on the company's home page (www.sagem-interstar.com).
