Sagemcom's XMediusFAX 7.0 Now Interoperable with Cisco's Unified Communication Manager, Unity Connection

By Steve Anderson, Contributing TMCnet Writer

Exchanging faxes over Internet protocol can be difficult for the uninitiated, but Sagemcom (News - Alert) may have just the solution that's needed to bridge the gap between complex and simple, thanks to its XMediusFAX 7.0 system. Since it's recently completed interoperability verification testing for the Cisco (News - Alert) Developer Network, it's ready to provide that solution for all users in need.

More specifically, Sagemcom's XMediusFAX 7.0 has cleared interoperability testing for both Cisco's Unified Communication Manager 9.1 and its Unity Connection 9.0 as well. Since Unified Communication Manager 9.1 represents a major solution to several communications issues, offering conferencing, instant messaging, telepresence and voice and video systems alike among a variety of other functions, it's not surprising that it's a widely-used solution. But there's a bit of a downside to the solution because, while it offers support for T.38 fax-over-IP protocol, actually exchanging faxes requires a bit of third-party help. That's where XMediusFAX 7.0 steps in, offering that necessary bridge between faxes and the wider Unified Communication Manager 9.1 system. Unity Connection 9.0, meanwhile, offers a set of integrated messaging systems designed to help keep users in touch, handling messages on the strength of voice commands, which makes things quite a bit simpler to work with.

Getting the three services together in concert, meanwhile, makes for a complete solution that provides multiple communications methods and puts all of said solutions under one roof. This is especially useful for businesses that have moved to a BYOD (bring your own device) structure, as it allows for client options across multiple platforms, including Windows and Mac.

Sagemcom Canada's general manager, Jean Champagne (News - Alert), summed up the benefits of having XMediusFAX 9.1 in place along with a set of Cisco solutions, saying “Large enterprises and SMB users will immediately realize the benefits of the latest version of our faxing solution combined with the enhanced collaboration, video, and mobility features of Cisco’s Unified Communication Manager 9.1 and Cisco’s Unity Connection 9.0.”

This serves a lot of valuable purposes on several levels. With more and more companies proceeding to a BYOD setup, having the necessary tools in place to make sure that the devices brought in can easily connect and communicate is vital to the overall success of such a program. Add on the ability to bring all these solutions under one handy umbrella with the integration of XMediusFAX, Unified Communication Manager and Unity Connection, and that makes for a system that can be put into place rapidly and with less management after the fact – far better than trying to use multiple systems to accomplish the same thing.

The end result here is that the addition of Sagemcom's XMediusFAX system provides that little extra value that makes Cisco's Unity Connection and Unified Communication Manager extremely potent systems, and should go a long way toward being the solution of note for many communications systems' needs.
