Signs of Growth for the IP Fax Market

By Blaise McNamee, Web Editor

Nearly every business today has a fax machine. As a powerful and established channel for interoffice communications, fax has been evolving to keep up with the latest trends of technology. IP Fax solutions, like those developed by Sagemcom, have been allowing companies to maintain their fax capabilities while gaining a complete unified communications solution for their office. With more and more businesses realizing the advantages of a fully converged IP communications platform, IP Fax solutions have seen greater proliferation in the workplace.

As an example, Virtutone Networks Inc. -- a technology company based in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, supplying managed telecommunication services including Fax over IP, Voice over IP, Hosted PBX (News - Alert), and other services and products -- recently announced that the company’s wholesale division produced more than $2.58 million in revenue for the month of May. This is on the heels of a respective $2.25 million and $1.8 million in revenue for the months of March and April.

“The company expects continued revenue growth moving forward as our wholesale division expands." said Jason Allen, chief executive officer of Virtutone, in a statement.

This growth is right in line with the market expectations projected by Davidson Consulting, published in April, 2013. Its latest “Fax over IP Server Markets: 2012-2017” report suggests that the market for FoIP servers will continue to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.2 percent through 2017. For the fax service market, Davidson predicts that the overall industry will grow from $1,165 million in 2012 to $2,365 million in 2016, a CAGR of 15.2 percent. Moreover, Davidson’s research suggests that the rise of Fax over IP (FoIP) servers will drive the growth of computer-based fax markets as well, reaching $700 million in 2016 (a 12.1 percent CAGR).

If cases like Virtutone’s are any indication, these projections will soon reach fruition. With IP communications now taking full advantage of the increasingly powerful cloud, as with Sagemcom’s (News - Alert) new XMediusFax Cloud solution, the ubiquity of unified communications throughout the business world is a surefire bet.
