XMediusFAX Release 7 Enhances Microsoft Platform Support

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

The world of telecommunications is dynamic and constantly changing. Platforms, products and software are continuously updated and new methods of delivering voice, video and data are being implemented all the time. As the technology evolves, it is important for software providers to evolve alongside these innovations, adapting and changing to various changes. The latest release of XMediusFAX from Sagemcom, for example, features support for the 64-bit edition of Microsoft (News - Alert) Office 2010. This marks the latest step in a long history of integration between Microsoft’s applications and Sagemcom’s IP fax offerings. In fact, Sagemcom is a Gold certified independent software vendor partner.

Sagemcom has a rich and long history – more than 15 years – of Microsoft application integration and related solutions, including server platforms, client platforms, back office platforms, productivity platforms and core technology platforms. XMediusFAX has been deployed alongside Microsoft products including Exchange for many years and offer robust solutions addressing key business segments.

Even though Microsoft Lync does not support T.38 protocol, Sagemcom managed to find a way to make the XMediusFAX solution work in the unified messaging environment. Sagemcom utilized a “smart” gateway which determined if an incoming stream was voice or fax, and, if it was a fax transmission, it was routed directly to XMediusFAX, bypassing Lync altogether.

Therefore, as a Gold certified ISV Partner, Sagemcom’s solutions touch all Microsoft platforms at some level, from Unified Communications (News - Alert) to Enterprise Content Management (SharePoint), and the company continues its commitment to meeting the Microsoft Partner requirements.

Because of the tight integration with Microsoft, XMediusFAX acts as a “drop-in” solution that provides a simple migration strategy for Exchange Unified Messaging customers. This relationship leads to streamlined application integration, marked by a friendly handoff between Unified Messaging and XMediusFAX as described above. The simple operations provide support for a single voice/fax number, support for Lync and support for Office 365. The solution offers application flexibility and scalability, with complete benefits of a fax server, including outbound faxing, archiving and integration. In addition, it can be deployed on a stand-alone windows server or in a virtualized environment.

XMediusFAX is an optimized document management solution for the SharePoint ecosystem. It offers streamlined application integration, simplified operations, an ergonomic interface and application versatility.

Sagemcom prides itself on its close integration with Windows applications and its status as a Microsoft Gold Partner. In each new release of its XMediusFAX offering, Sagemcom has worked to tighten its integration with Microsoft offerings, with support for the 32-bit edition of Microsoft Office 2010 added in Release 6.5.5, and the upcoming Release 7 will have support for the 64-bit edition. As the Microsoft offerings continue to evolve, especially in light of the growing popularity of the cloud-based Office 365, Sagemcom will continue to evolve XMediusFAX to keep in line with cutting edge technology and create a dynamic, easy-to-use fax offering for now and into the future.
