XMediusFAX Release 7 from Sagemcom Simplifies IP Fax Operations

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

In the hectic business world with its ever more frantic pace, workers are constantly looking for ways to make common tasks easier and simpler. Therefore, when a company is looking to upgrade an already successful offering, one common area of improvement is frequently simplified operations. This was a philosophy adopted by Sagemcom as the company readied the latest release of its XMediusFAX IP fax solution: simplifying operations and optimizing for the Web.

The latest release boasts many new features that streamline and simplify the process of sending, receiving and organizing faxes. First, Release 7 features a new basic interface in the SendFAX client. Traditionally, the SendFAX interface included a full interface that required a great deal of specific information on the intended recipient. Now, users can take advantage of a simple interface that merely requires senders to input the recipient’s fax number in a single field. This is especially convenient for users who frequently send faxes to the same recipient, as it saves time by eliminating the need to compose a body text, subject line, etc.

There is another simplified interface that is present in the latest release. The newest version of XMediusFAX boasts a printer driver utility that enables the sending of faxes via the Web Access interface, making the process as easy as printing a document from any Windows application. The printer driver converts the document, whether it is a Word, PowerPoint or other Windows file, into a TIFF file, uploading it as an attachment in the Web fax composition interface. This makes the sending of faxes from Windows applications simpler and more efficient than ever.

A third improvement to the user experience that is featured in this latest release is the updated fax forwarding capabilities. This represents yet another Web optimize feature, as it allows users to forward faxes from their Web User Fax Boxes with just a few clicks. Menus representing favorite and recently selected destinations are available, and the drag and drop functionality of the fax forwarding makes the process easy. This feature is especially useful for repetitive forwarding actions.

Not only does XMediusFAX Release 7 contain many simplified operations, it also includes an easy way to keep track of the status of fax account activity. The Fax Account Monitoring Spot is a small, circular notification icon that is located in the Windows taskbar. A green circle represents an “all clear” while a yellow circle means there is an error in at least one fax. A blinking circle means there is either an unread fax or that one is being sent, and, if the icon is red, that means the system is unreachable for some reason.

Perhaps the best news about Release 7 is that it supports HTML5, the latest HTML standard for the Web. This means that the software is future-proofed, so users can be confident that they can purchase it and use it for years to come. By supporting HTML5 and CSS3, uniformity and reliability is improved across all XMediusFAX interfaces and enables the official support of the latest available versions of the following four main Web browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla (News - Alert) Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari.

Overall, these features represent real dedication to making IP fax easier and more efficient for end users and, as the release date of the newest version of XMediusFAX approaches, even more dynamic and exciting features of the offering are coming to light. Between this and Sagemcom’s fax service platform, due out late this summer, it is clear the company is hard at work keeping on the cutting edge of all things fax.
