Changes in leadership always lead to interesting times. Whenever a new leader is appointed or elected, at a government level or in a corporation or organization, it means a time of readjustment. New leaders bring change and new ideas, which can be very exciting, and they can focus on new initiatives or really drive home existing plans.
This week, the SIP Forum (News - Alert) announced its newest leader, Spencer Dawkins, who will take the post of technical director. Dawkins has been a member of the forum in the past and has contributed a great deal to the work the organization has done. He has over a decade of experience in SIP-related technologies that he brings to the table.
"SIP continues to serve as the main engine for IP communications innovation and is helping drive the rapid pace of change in today’s telecom world," said Dawkins in a press release. "As SIP Forum Technical Director, I look forward to working with SIP Forum key stakeholders – leadership, our task groups and members – to ensure the Forum continues to fulfill its mission of advancing the global adoption of SIP. My role will be to help our task groups continue to deliver sound technical recommendations and guidance to the industry which answer important questions, eliminate roadblocks, solve problems and ultimately address outstanding issues that might otherwise slow SIP adoption in enterprise and carrier IP networks.”
Among his initiatives will be to develop the individual SIP Forum task groups. Among these groups are the SIPconnect Task Group; the SIPconnect Interoperability Certficatuib Task Group; the User Agent Configuration Task Group; the Test Event Working Group; and the Fax over IP Task group, which is focused on the IP Fax space, promoting the technology and understanding of it throughout the business and telecommunications world.
