DSP Group (News - Alert), a global provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications at home, and Sagemcom announced that Sagemcom's D46W handset powered by DSP Group chipset has received CAT-iq 2.0 certification from the DECT (News - Alert) Forum.

Sagemcom is a French high-technology group specializing in markets of broadband, telecom and energy, and management of documents. The company’s IP Fax offering combines  fax over IP with IP telephony to offer unique survivability, built-in clustering, security and ultra-scalability.

Cordless Advanced Technology – Internet and Quality (CAT-iq) 2.0 is the next-generation cordless technology that supports multi-line telephony, three-party conferencing, call transfer, phonebook synchronization, easy device pairing and other capabilities that enable a wide range of new fixed-line services, according to company officials.

The D46W handset, powered by DSP Group's XceedR family of cordless chipset solutions, has been awarded the (CAT-iq) 2.0 protocol certification, enabling it to deliver wideband HD voice and a host of other innovative features to end users. Sagemcom's D46W handset provides wideband HD voice, including hands-free mode. It also delivers high-quality polyphonic ringers and caller identification.

“Leveraging our market leadership in DECT and CAT-iq, we have made the next-generation CAT-iq 2.0 a key technology in our platform portfolio,” said Oz Zimerman, corporate VP of Marketing and Business Development at DSP Group, in a statement. “Our successful collaboration with Sagemcom in achieving CAT-iq 2.0 certification for its D46W handset is another step in strengthening our position in the ever-expanding cordless telephony industry.”

An affiliate of DECT Forum and Home Gateway Initiative, DSP Group has been actively involved in all stages of defining the next-generation cordless technology. DSP Group also has contributed to the creation of corresponding European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI (News - Alert)) specifications and supported CableLabs' specification activities.

With broadband a core focus of Sagemcom, the release of CAT-iq 2.0 handsets with DSP Group technology  is important for the company as it enables them to offer a complete ecosystem with gateways and handsets, and thus reinforce Sagemcom's leading position in this market in Europe, says Ahmed Selmani, deputy chief executive officer of Sagemcom Broadband SAS (News - Alert).

Recently, DSP Group signed a partnership with Grandstream Networks (News - Alert), a leading manufacturer of IP voice/video telephony and video surveillance solutions, to integrate DSP Group's XciteR VoIP chipset into Grandstream's new high-definition (HD) voice IP desktop phones.

Sagemcom also offers a unique portfolio of IP Fax solutions and most recently announced their XMediusFAX IP Fax software version 6.5.5 completed interoperability testing with the Cisco Unified Computing System Express (Cisco 2900 Series Routers).
