Sagemcom Takes IP Fax and PYTHON SCRIPTING to 'Sexy Cool'

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

It is hard to imagine fax technology as anything other than cumbersome and manual. For many of us, the concept of faxing is ingrained in our minds as walking many times throughout the day to the standalone fax machine located most likely by the copier or in some other central location. You type in the number of the recipient, put the paper in – hoping you have it facing the right direction – and hit the send button.

You then wait around for that confirmation page to be sure the send was successful. If this sounds like a waste of company resources, it may be time to consider another method. Sagemcom is a leader in the fax over IP space and has taken fax away from the manual process and moved it to the desktop. Corporate employees can now create and send documents without ever leaving their desk. Even more beneficial, these documents can be combined with attachments, shared with other employees and archived for later retrieval.

In a recent Sagemcom video, Sebastien Boire-Lavigne, director of technology and development for Sagemcom, has some fun with the company’s latest innovations. In fact, he refers to the company’s Fax Server PYTHON SCRIPTING as “sexy cool.” While you may have never imagined you would hear these words combined with fax technology; if you take a closer look you will understand the approach. Sagemcom truly brings value to the enterprise network with its fax over IP solutions.

In fact, the company’s fax over IP provides the bridge between VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) systems and enterprise applications to fax-enable the network to ensure communications can reach the fax machine on the PSTN.In serving as the center of a number of different platforms and systems on the enterprise network, it is important that Sagemcom’s XMediusFAX offers a number of different methods of integration. The solution has to be able to integrate with Web services, e-mail, PYTHON SCRIPTING, LDAP & Active Directory, printing streams, command files and more. Boire-Lavigne’s favorite method by far is PYTHON SCRIPTING and he easily refers to it as “Sexy Cool.”

The biggest perk to this method is the ability to customize your own fax routing to fit within your environment. It also allows you to talk with legacy systems, which is essential for easy integration.  The bottom line is the XMediusFAX with PYTHON SCRIPTING delivers the ultimate in flexibility.
