Quite often, a great way to gauge how far a company has truly come is to revisit a place or event it attended a few years ago and compare where it was then to what it has accomplished since.
Take iQsim, a provider of SIM server solutions, for instance. Approximately two years ago, iQsim was an exhibitor at TMC’s ITEXPO (News - Alert) East 2010 in Miami, Fla., where the company officially launched its flagship product, IRON Suite. In an on-site discussion with TMCnet at that year’s show, Mark Lorenzi, vice president of Operations for iQsim, revealed that the company was just beginning its venture into the M2M market.
“We’re looking ahead to the M2M market and seeing how we can position our product in the market,” Lorenzi told TMCnet then, referring to iQsim’s IRON Suite, which enables Internet telephony service providers to offer a complete SIM management solution for GSM termination.
When asked what kind of applications iQsim envisioned for the M2M space, Lorenzi said, “We have unique expertise in SIM management and having the capability to manage remotely SIM cards. When you think about M2M and having devices with GSM and SIM cards deployed in different locations, our solution allows you to provision SIM Cards to devices and manage SIM cards within it from a central site.”
iQsim was founded in 2009 and is currently based in France, with offices in Mexico and Miami. The company develops software architectures for service providers to enable them to offer new services, specifically for GSM termination.
Of utmost interest to Lorenzi and iQsim in 2010 was 4GWE, an event collocated with ITEXPO focusing on 4G wireless technologies and the wireless ecosystem. At that time, Lorenzi described 4G as “a future opportunity” having absolutely “no impact” on the company’s existing products – a stark contrast to 2012, in which 3G, and LTE and WiMAX (News - Alert) are becoming the norm.
If there’s another indicator of how far iQsim has come since 2010, it’s next week’s ITEXPO East 2012, where iQsim will once again make an appearance on the Miami Convention Center exhibit floor. Thanks to massive adoption by Internet telephony service providers over the last few years, IRON Suite will once again be a main attraction for the company’s booth, as well as its Smart SIM Rack, a relatively new virtual SIM management platform designed for netwok QoS testing and M2M deployment validation.
Leading up to next week’s show, taking place Jan. 31 1 to Feb. 3, iQsim’s IRON SIM Server One was also recognized with the 2011 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year award. IRON SIM Server One is a solution delivering SIM server features including SIM allocation and protection, and SIM cards storage. ased on criteria such as credit, service type, location and operator, the IRON SIM Server One selects the most appropriate SIM card, whether it’s pre-paid or post-paid, to optimize call termination costs and maximize SIM cards usage.
iQsim revealed recently to TMCnet that it plans on entering two new markets this year, one centered around GSM/3G and LTE (News - Alert) networks, and the second honing in on M2M and other vertical segments – a strong sign of how far the company has come since 2010.
