Leveraging a Service Broker Delivers Measurable Benefits

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Service providers are facing increasingly difficult challenges in the marketplace as they continue to struggle with intense demands on the network, customers who want bigger and better capabilities in their devices, shareholders who want more value driven by the network and tight budgets.

One of the best things the service provider can do is to migrate to new business models and network topologies that allow them to meet the growing demands within their market space. Simply deciding the make a change and actually driving efficient migration are two different things and the service provider may be better served by turning to a Service Broker.

For many a service provider today, revenue growth is found in the development of partners who can help bring applications to the network. The provider also needs to be able to drive better service to the customer base and support the ever-increasing data demands. A Service Broker can help in this process through the provision of a future-proof solution that will drive ongoing efficiency in the network and the deployment of applications.

The changes service providers are facing also require the integration of personalized data and the tight integration of policies. This can be a challenge to keep as a priority and still deliver the experience the customer demands.

However, the service provider cannot allow policies to go unchecked if they hope to ensure Quality of Experience (QoE) for all users. In using a Service Broker, the service provider can enjoy extended reach with new and existing applications while also interacting with data services management such as subscriber data and policy management elements.

While changing to meet the demands of today’s customer can sound promising, service providers still have considerable assets tied up in their current networks and solutions that leverage those assets to drive revenue and profitability will gain the most favor.

A Service Broker can help to provide an innovative alternative for the protection and leverage of a service provider’s current network assets and applications investments, while at the same time introducing new services over next generation networks.
