Service Brokers Address Operators Needs in Dynamic Network Landscape

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

The Service Broker Forum, a multi-vendor association with the goal of evangelizing and educating the telecommunication industry on the service broker product category, has, on the basis of poll results from a Webinar hosted by its founding members, announced that the Service Broker market was gathering momentum.

According to the results, it appeared that almost 86 percent of the global operators considered service Brokers as playing an important role in their ongoing network transformation strategy.

They regarded the ability to leverage a Service Broker to easily and efficiently introduce service innovation as they highest priority goal, with the ability to leverage existing services and network assets being cited as a primary requirement while making a transition to more IP centric architectures.

Principal analyst, Joe McGarvey indicated that the results were not surprising as the most recent report suggested that Operators had to negotiate a labyrinth of protocols while introducing a new service for subscribers, and Service Brokers gained traction for their ability to increase the delivery agility of operators and service providers.

Service Brokers not only provide a real-time horizontal service delivery and control layer, but also ensure the availability of more flexible, cost-effective alternatives to traditional application connectivity models, especially when there is a movement towards more advanced IP based architectures. Thus, Service Brokers have emerged as a critical network element in any network transformation strategy.

Founded by industry leaders in the Service Broker market space, the Forum provides a common platform to facilitate discussion and communication around the many benefits that can be realized from utilizing Service Brokers within an overall network evolution strategy.
