By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Web Editor

The Service Broker Forum has announced further evidence of continued market momentum around the Service Broker. Poll results from a recent webinar hosted by Service Broker Forum founding members; Amdocs (News - Alert) (News - Alert)/jNetX (News - Alert), Metaswitch Networks, OpenCloud and Oracle, point to the continued growth of the Service Broker as a means to manage network transformation.

The poll found that nearly 86 percent of the global operators are seriously considering Service Brokers as a key part of their ongoing network transformation strategy. The ability to leverage a Service Broker to easily and efficiently introduce service innovation was viewed as the highest priority goal when asked to consider network transformation strategic objectives. According to the poll, utilizing a Service Broker to leverage existing services and network assets was also cited as a primary requirement when moving from traditional to more IP centric architectures.

“These results are not surprising,” commented principal analyst, Joe McGarvey.  “In my most recent report from Current Analysis (News - Alert) (News - Alert)
Service Providers have found that as they move to advanced IP based architectures, they require a more flexible, cost effective alternative to traditional application connectivity models. Service Brokers meet this need by providing a real-time horizontal service delivery and control layer, allowing for mediation and orchestration of services over a range of networks and application platforms, including both legacy and next-generation. As a result, the Service Broker has emerged as a critical network element in any network transformation strategy.Service Broker Update: Key Transformation Component Comes of Age, I discuss that for operators to introduce a new service to a cross-section of subscribers they must negotiate a labyrinth of protocols, switches and service domains. It is against this backdrop that Service Brokers are beginning to gain traction as mechanisms for equalizing the service creation and delivery agility of operators and Web-based service providers."

The Service Broker Forum is a multi-vendor association with the goal of evangelizing and educating the telecommunication industry on the service broker product category through the sharing of ideas, opinions, and knowledge. The Forum provides a common platform to facilitate discussion and communication around the many benefits that can be realized from utilizing Service Brokers within an overall network evolution strategy. Membership in the Forum is open to those vendors, system integrators, service providers and application developers that are interested in embracing the product category and committed to evangelizing the benefits of Service Broker solutions through the Service Broker Forum.
