Large enterprises are well-aware of the complications associated with data overload. As more and more of our business lives move into the digital realm, the amount of information to be stored, organized, searched, and accessed becomes gargantuan. Of course, small to medium-sized businesses aren’t exempt from this challenge, and often find it more difficult to successfully manage enterprise content due to resource and space restrictions. Thus, in an effort to offer such companies a space-saving alternative to rack-mounted search appliances, MaxxCAT has launched small desktop versions of their popular SB-series search appliances.
"The idea actually came from a customer who was using a desktop server for hundreds of GBs of files," explained Jim Jackson, product manager for MaxxCAT. "He needed a highly-effective search but didn't have any rack space for a search appliance and, understandably, didn't want to leave one lying around on the floor. We had our engineers optimize the software for desktop hardware configurations and were able to get him the search appliance he needed. We've had a few other inquiries and decided to make it a permanent offering."
The SB-250d and SB-350d are convenient desktop form factor counterparts to MaxxCAT’s standard 1U rack-mounted search appliances. They maintain the same level of performance as the rack-mountable devices and are priced identically ($2,995 for the 250GB SB-250d and $3,995 for the 500GB SB-350d).
The company explained that these new desktop search appliances are ideal for businesses employing tower series, and who may lack rack space. MaxxCAT aims to provide these businesses with unmatched crawl, indexing and query throughput with easy integration. The SB-250d, for example, is capable of handling 2,500 executed queries per minute (QPM), while the SB-350d can handle up to 5,000 for larger collections.
MaxxCAT also noted that the SB-350d is being added to its existing Education and Non-Profit buyers programs, which are designed to bring enterprise search to budget and resource conscious organizations.
No matter your businesses space limitations, there’s now an enterprise search solution for you.
