The workforce went home in 2020 in unprecedented fashion due to unprecedented circumstances. Businesses are funding in way in these murky waters via next generation networking technologies, enabling the level of reliable, secure, high-performing access to critical resources.

The Dell’ (News - Alert)Oro Group SD-WAN Advanced Research Report notes despite impeded growth for the SD-WAN Market in 2020, the coming years will bring further market consolidation and robust growth.

2020 may not have lived up to expectations, but 2021 and 2022 are projected to more than make-up for the shortfall. Dell’Oro analysts forecast a CAGR of 24% through 2025 resulting in a valuation of more than $4 billion. Software is pegged for a key area of revenue growth, already making up 80% of SD-WAN revenue.

"The pandemic caused some delays in SD-WAN deployments in 2020, but the underlying demand drivers for modernizing WAN infrastructures remains strong," said Shin Umeda, Vice President at Dell'Oro Group. "With more clarity on the direction of macroeconomic conditions and the pandemic in 2021, businesses will increasingly execute on their strategic SD-WAN investments, which in turn will drive a market acceleration," added Umeda.

As the world comes out of the pandemic, WFH is here to stay. While it certainly accelerated digital transformation initiatives for firms of all shapes and sizes, SD-WAN solution providers were also challenged to accelerate innovation efforts – to the edge and back.

The businesses asking “if” are finally saying “when” can I when it comes to digital transformation.  Hindsight is always in 20/20 and the Monday morning quarterback always leads the game-winning drive.

What’s in your WAN?
