SD-WAN is an up-and-coming technology, to say the least. Attendees of the recent SD-WAN Expo witnessed firsthand the ins and outs, further cementing why adoption is on the rise. The network is moving in a software-defined direction, with the news supporting my claim.

ZTE (News - Alert) and InfoVista announced a “strategic alliance” as well as the general availability of an application-aware SD-WAN solution for the enterprise. The joint product delivers infoVista’s WAN Optimization, application session routing, application visibility and application QoS control melded with ZTE’s routing, overlay, zero-touch management and service orchestration via single unified branch gateway.

“This alliance marries the best-of-breed virtualized network functions (VNFs) from InfoVista (News - Alert) with cost-effective, carrier grade hardware and orchestration from ZTE. This partnership also further demonstrates our commitment to the Chinese market, to creating value through partnerships and to the delivery of SD-WAN solutions that enable the enterprises to execute on their digital transformation plans,” explained Bernard Breton, Chief Marketing Officer of InfoVista.

The duo decided to deliver versatility, offering a self-hosted and a managed package. Service providers can leverage the multi-tenant delivery model, whereas an enterprise would likely be more intrigued by the self-hosted option.

Enthused by the partnership, Mr. Zhu Yongxing, Vice President of ZTE, noted “The innovative business model provided by InfoVista and ZTE sets a good example for hardware vendors and software providers in the industry. The alliance combines the strengths of both parties. In addition to simplifying the infrastructure and application architecture, it also provides more flexible and open choices to customers.”

Digital transformation is happening all around us. The cloud is no passing fad, and the future is software-defined. I would expect more of the same, as Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) (MWC) continues.
