SD-WAN Offers Cost Savings and Efficiency for Remote and Branch Offices

When a business opens a new branch office, it’s usually a sign of growth, expansion and overall positive performance. And there’s typically a procedure in place for setting up the new location, hiring personnel and preparing the new physical space with the proper company branding and style.

Getting the new branch online and synched with the corporate network is another matter entirely, and this process has traditionally posed a number of challenges. It can take weeks to connect a remote office using typical wide area network (WAN) technologies, and the process has often been costly and time consuming. The software-defined approach is becoming a popular choice for remote and branch offices, and SD-WAN is making major inroads for cutting costs and the time needed to bring geographically dispersed businesses online.

Companies are steadily migrating away from private and expensive MPLS connectivity toward broadband to meet their networking needs. SD-WAN excels with automating and managing all types of network traffic over broadband connections, and solutions are typically easy to set up and maintain. IDC (News - Alert) forecasts the SD-WAN market will reach $6 billion in annual revenues by 2020, largely driven by remote and branch office uptake.

CloudGenix is one of the companies capitalizing on uptake of SD-WAN, and the company’s ION solution enables customers to layer SD-WAN intelligence on top of their existing networks, enabling an incremental switch to the networking technology. The company announced its partner program last week, mining its management’s connections to Cisco (News - Alert) to sign up a large ecosystem of channel partners. The program supports those using CloudGenix ION to bring networking efficiencies and cost savings to the enterprise.

According to the company, ION can reduce WAN costs by as much as 70 percent while also eliminating many of the complexities of network configuration. SD-WAN solutions generally help cut costs associated with WAN transport, hardware and the personnel needed to manage complex solutions. They also mitigate costs incurred by traffic congestion, inadequate network performance and the expenses associated with scaling or adapting network resources
