Salesforce.com to Aggressively Hire Sales people

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Salesforce.com's CFO Graham Smith has told shareholders that the company is aggressively hiring salespeople, Wall Street Journal reported.

The move underscores the company's confidence the global economy is recovering.

Smith, while making these comments at the company's annual shareholder meeting in San Francisco recently, said that international revenue currently accounts for roughly $380 million annually, up from about $100 million four year ago.

The Americas region is the single largest contributor, accounting for more than two-thirds of the company's revenue.

Smith said that the company has added a net 18,000 new customers over the past 12 months, but still sees much of its growth from existing clients.

"We see a lot of repeat business and growth within customer accounts,' Smith said in the magazine.'

He said that roughly 50 percent of the company's new business each quarter is from existing customers.

The company later this month expects to release Chatter, a social-networking application for office collaboration that about 5,000 companies have been beta testing.

According to WSJ report, the company is also working on a product with VMware Inc., dubbed VMforce, that will give the world's 6 million Java developers a new way to deploy applications in the cloud.

For fiscal first-quarter ended April 30, Salesforce posted a profit of $17.7 million, or 13 cents a share, down 3.7 percent from $18.4 million, or 15 cents a share, a year earlier.
TMCnet in June reported that Salesforce.com (News - Alert), the enterprise cloud computing company, has announced general availability of Salesforce Chatter globally for more than 77,300 customers.

Officials with Salesforce.com said that Chatter, industry's first cloud-based enterprise social collaboration application and platform, unleashes the social enterprise and a new way to work for people around the world.

Company officials said that Chatter's arrival also creates a new economy and opportunity for partners and developers to realize commercial success with Cloud 2 apps.

Salesforce.com has also announced a new Chatter license for customers to extend the enterprise social network company-wide.

According to company officials, Salesforce Chatter is a Cloud 2 app, which is social, mobile and real time that employees can use for collaboration across their company.
