The choices available to consumers and organizations on how they communicate with their mobile device is allowing them to work and play without the restrictions of time and place. With that in mind, mobile operators are always looking to provide more options by improving existing capabilities and adding new technologies to get the attention of their customers. Rich Communication Suite (News - Alert) (RCS) is an integrated multimedia communication solution that enables the delivery of services across devices on any network, and any accredited solution by the GSMA allows carriers to use the technology as part of their offering.
Imagination Technologies, creator of the HelloSoft (News - Alert) RCS announced it was given the accreditation by GSMA so it can start offering operators commercial RCS services. The RCS platform is supported by some of the largest operators around the world, including Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica, Vodafone (News - Alert), MetroPCS, Korea Telecom, SK Telecom, LG U+ and many others.
The carrier grade HelloSoft RCS client software is designed for easy integration so it can be deployed across a wide range of devices and platforms. The algorithms it employs delivers a Quality of Service (QoS) that has now been accredited to give operators low latency on LTE (News - Alert) networks with superior video and Voice over IP (VoIP) quality, even at large packet loss rates.
All of the multi-media support is made possible with the optimized HelloSoft Media Engine, Dynamic Video Quality Management (DVQM) and EVQM (Enhanced Voice Quality Management) to ensure transport of content even when there is up to 30 percent packet loss in unstable wireless environments, delivering superior voice and video quality.
The Media Engine is composed of wide-band and narrow-band voice codecs; video codecs; QoS components – packet loss concealment (PLC); adaptive jitter buffer (AJB); voice activity detector (VAD); comfort noise generator (CNG); echo cancellers (acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) and noise cancellation (NC) for hands-free speaker phones; and telephony components – call progress tones (CPT) and DTMF.
“As operators look to maintain their position as the primary providers of communication services, it is critical that they have the best possible technology. Consumers won't stand for dropped calls or poor quality connections. With the HelloSoft RCS client, operators can provide the best QoS and lowest latency, with support for major standards - all optimized for low power consumption and optimal bandwidth,” said Krishna Raghavan, vice president of business operations for Imagination.
HelloSoft RCS client is compliant with GSMA (News - Alert) RCS, GSMA RCS-e (joyn), RCS 5.0/5.1 standards (Blackbird), IR.92 VoLTE and IR.94 video over LTE standards supporting all of the advanced features that are essential for today’s smart mobile devices.
Additionally, HelloSoft RCS provides an interface that integrates third party applications for social media and gaming engines as well as enterprise features such as shared call appearance, simultaneous multiple network type support, call handoff between multiple packet network types and multiple device support with secure signaling and media transport through TLS, SRTP and end to end content security mechanism using SMIME.
As the smart mobile devices we use become an integral part of our personal and work life, our reliance on them is becoming increasingly more important. Consumers and businesses are not going to choose a carrier based on the latest fad, instead opting for the operator with the highest deliver of their content, whether it be voice, video or data.
