Interop (News - Alert) Technologies’ cloud Rich Communication Services (RCS) solution has certified to be fully compliant with GSM Association’s joyn Blackbird release, which consists of a number of priority RCS version 5.1 features to help operators compete with OTT services.
The Rich Communication Services program was formulated by GSMA (News - Alert) to deliver rich yet simplified communications services that are complemented by a strong ecosystem and a range of implementation options. Marketed by the GSMA under the brand name joyn, RCS is driving the migration of messaging and voice capabilities to an all-IP infrastructure.
The Blackbird release of joyn possesses a strong focus on the native implementation of the communication services, providing a more seamless experience for the user with simpler user interface. It also includes “store and forward” capabilities for chat messages and file transfers.
Interop explained that its RCS solution provides operators with the ability to compete directly with national providers as they introduce RCS-based services. One major advantage of the Interop cloud-based technology, the company said, is that it is easily implemented and does not need any upfront investment of an in-network solution.
Steve Zitnik, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Interop Technologies, said, “It is critical for operators to introduce RCS to remain competitive with national players. With our cloud-based technology, operators can launch this service quickly and cost effectively without making expensive changes to their current network.”
Some of the notable features of the Interop RCS include: fully compliance with RCS specifications, with or without an IMS network; advancement in step with client and feature specifications as the RCS ecosystem evolves; provision of interworking with legacy SMS and MMS; support of cloud, private cloud, and turnkey deployment options; delivery in-demand features to maintain subscriber loyalty; and more.
