Recently, BroadSoft (News - Alert) introduced a little something new for its BroadCloud Software as a Service (SaaS) platform in the form of Rich Communication Services (RCS). While RCS solutions have faced some challenges in the past, BroadCloud's version will improve on those previous releases and, in turn, provide a lot of extra value for mobile operators looking to expand their lineup of services.
The addition of RCS, and its counterpart RCS-e, for "enhanced," will give mobile operators a platform for managed service delivery for a wide array of services like voice and video calling, media sharing, converged messaging and more. The addition of RCS to BroadCloud also provides a boost in terms of time-to-market and a drop in costs associated with deployment, as well as a reduced complexity, which provides much of the impetus behind the preceding advantages.
BroadCloud RCS offers high versatility for users as well, being equally usable in IMS networks as well as those networks that don't have IMS. Networks without IMS get a further benefit, as BroadCloud RCS includes the necessary IMS functions, while still allowing users to later bring in a more complete IMS for the entire network. Additionally, BroadSoft offers more than just BroadCloud, bringing in the means for provides to offer up a wide assortment of communications services like Voice over LTE (News - Alert), unified communications, conferencing services and more.
With communication services being as widely used as they are, it's clear that BroadSoft is in an excellent position to not only provide the services that mobile operators need today, but also a solid chance at providing the services that will be necessary in the future as well. Improving the ability to launch IMS deployments certainly doesn't hurt matters either, and the sheer versatility represented by not only the BroadCloud RCS line, but by BroadSoft's larger overall lineup, should be well-received by those companies looking to get ahead of the curve in communications services.
