Absolute Software, a provider of firmware-embedded, persistent endpoint security and management solutions, has just released the latest version of Absolute Manage with expanded "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) support for ultra-portable devices, including laptops.
Version 6.1 of Absolute Manage 6.1 goes a step further by automating the BYOD tasks required to enroll employees and their devices onto the corporate network. It relives the IT from dealing with each device on an employee-by-employee basis. Instead it allows the IT department to rely on an automated workflow to guide the employee through the enrolment process.
"Given the rapid growth of tablets and smartphones in the workplace, BYOD is the biggest challenge facing IT organizations today," said John Livingston, chairman and CEO of Absolute Software, in a statement. "Absolute Manage helps IT overcome this challenge by delivering a solution to manage the security risks associated with employee-owned devices accessing corporate networks and data."
Additional capabilities are offered for ultra-portable devices. They include enhanced Mobile Application Management with the installation / removal of apps silently or by policy. The solution also offers automated IT commands based on predefined conditions including turning off roaming, demoting a device to unmanaged status, alerting IT, and sending a message to the user.
Absolute Software has also created a BYOD Policy Implementation Guide that provides a thoughtful yet succinct process broken down into three basic steps so that organizations can easily build and launch their own BYOD policy.
Other enhancements of Absolute Manage 6.1 include new features for PC and Mac support, including cross-platform remote control and detailed encryption status reporting. It also brings Android (News - Alert) support to parity with iOS offering full cross platform support of all relevant platforms, for both corporate owned and individual devices.
In another related development, Absolute Software Corporation announced they have received the 2012 Lenovo (News - Alert) Diamond Supplier Award, the highest award given to Lenovo worldwide suppliers and partners. The Diamond Award is presented annually to a key partner that drives Lenovo's success over the past year.
