Progressive Infotech, an independent provider of IT Infrastructure Solutions and Services, has built a private cloud for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi.
Officials with Progressive Infotech said that with this installation, IIT Delhi will be able to consolidate its entire departments into a common account.
Company officials said that the Progressive Infotech and VMware cloud migration solution moves VMotion from the binds of the local data center of IIT Delhi and enables live migration of both VMs and the back-end storage across the WAN between data centers and clouds. To facilitate the set-up, Progressive had prepared a workflow that automates the majority of the migration, making it possible to execute with a minimum of manual configuration.
“Cloud computing is the backbone of India’s digital future. The setup of the private cloud at IIT Delhi is a milestone for us. This integrated solution enables long distance VMotion for the first time as a Private Cloud and does not require re-architecture of their local or remote networks,” said Prateek Garg, founder, CEO and managing director of Progressive Infotech, in a statement.
Garg said that to investigate the feasibility of moving to a private cloud, IIT Delhi required a proof of concept (POC). Progressive Infotech, successfully showcased live migration, VMotion and other technologies that helped build their confidence in the private cloud approach, he said.
“We are happy with the support provided by VMware and Progressive to the IIT Delhi CSC (News - Alert) team to implement a private cloud at IIT Delhi, especially in setting up the physical infrastructure. They have been responsive to our needs and helped us in setting up a facility that has been well appreciated by the user community," said Dr. Subhashis Banerjee, professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering IIT Delhi.
Progressive Infotech recently announced that it is now a Microsoft (News - Alert) Cloud Accelerator Partner.
In June 2009 TMCnet reported that Progressive Infotech had opened a new international subsidiary in Singapore. In 2008, Progressive had set up a subsidiary in Dubai to expand its presence in the Middle Eastern market. Progressive officials said in a release that, after venturing into the UAE market, the company’s focus is on developing, leading and delivering the company's strategy and growth initiatives in Singapore. Officials said this global expansion marks Progressive's foray into the ASEAN markets which includes countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam etc besides Singapore.
