It isn’t exactly news that the power can go out anywhere at any time. As much as modern infrastructure has advanced to provide optimal uptime, there’s always something that can go wrong, be it from a seemingly innocuous foil balloon or something more common like a storm or even just strong winds.
In fact, strong winds were the culprit in a power outage last week in Los Angeles, according to Leslie Lopez over on local TV ABC7. Strong winds reportedly blew through the Southland, resulting in thousands losing power for much of the day.
In particular, as many as 23,000 people lost electricity Friday as of 11:30 a.m. local time, according to the L.A. Department of Water and Power. While many households were back with power within a handful of hours, there were still 2,000 people without power by that evening. The power was restored to everyone save 88 customers by Saturday morning.
The incident affected a number of areas, including Harvard Heights, East Hollywood, Silver Lake, Westlake, Pacific Palisades, Hollywood, Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw, Valley Village, Korea Town, Northridge, Van Nuys, Canoga Park, North Hollywood, Sylmar, Reseda, Palms and Faircrest Heights.
Occurrences like these aren’t exactly uncommon as inclement weather is a reality of even the most moderate regions. With business today being a global, always-on affair in an ever-increasing range of industries, it’s therefore necessary to prepare for such outages with a reliable power protection solution.
Indeed, the right uninterruptible power supply (UPS) can make all but the most severe of outages a non-issue. That’s why MinutemanUPS offers a range of UPS power protection solutions to serve the needs of larger corporations that need to keep their data centers running even when the power grid goes down as well as smaller businesses that just need to keep a few computers running.
Regardless of your needs, if an outage will result in lost revenue, preparing now to avoid outages later with the right UPS is a no brainer.
