While technology is almost universally helping the business and public sector world in a positive way, there are some problems that are popping up exclusively because of technology. The more a company relies on being connected and being plugged in, the more danger is out there that something could go terribly wrong. This was recently underlined in the Colorado town of Cutten where 2,000 people were left without power when a storm caused a tree branch to knock down power lines and start a fire.

The outage began around 11:11 a.m. and the city says it was able to restore power to most customers a little after noon. “Close to noon we were able to reduce the customer count to 41 customers. This was due to a tree that came down into our power lines and actually did bring the lines down, and this is at Hemlock and W.”  Pacific Gas & Electric spokesman J.D. Guidi told the local paper, the Times Standard.

The company says there were only about 17 customers who were still without power by 1:30 p.m. While power was restored relatively quickly, there’s very little doubt that those two hours could make or break a company working on a deadline. Companies are looking to firms like Minuteman in order to keep their data safe and secure as well as making sure the company is still up and running. The power was down for just a few minutes but there is certainly the chance that the power could be down for quite a bit longer, such as the half day that was lost in Berthoud, Colorado, recently.

Using companies like Minuteman will give firms peace of mind in knowing they are protected from all kinds of different problems. Companies tend to go out of their way to make sure they’re protected against hackers and thieves, but power outage issues are largely ignored. Taking that extra step in protecting themselves works wonders in the business world.
