AEG Power Solutions (AEG PS), a provider of power protection solutions, announced the launch of its new high power data center UPS solutions to secure data center and IT facilities.

The Protect Blue, the brand new flagship UPS model from AEG, is designed to offer the market leading performance in large data centers. With its full rectifier and inverter three level technology, the UPS provides an unrivalled 96 percent double conversion efficiency by reducing switching losses. A standard two level IGBT double conversion technology limits the overall operating efficiency to 93.5 – 94 percent.

Company officials say the UPS solution improves overall Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), reduces CO2 emissions and energy consumption.

The UPS solution includes IEC61850 communication protocol as the standard which makes this solution the first SMART GRID ready UPS. Other protocols such as SNMP, JBus, Modbus, Ethernet, amongst others, are also available upon request.

The bi-directional rectifier removes the need to purchase expensive load banks to perform battery discharge tests. Battery discharge tests are initiated through the rectifier bridge with excess current injected into the mains network. Power protection OPEX (News - Alert) will be reduced with these built-in innovations.

With its high-power UPS solution, AEG eyes the data center market that is facing pressure due to the rising cost of energy and the need to meet important carbon reduction objectives such as the European Union’s 20-20-20 target. The UPS industry has tried to respond by achieving higher efficiencies.

The EU code of conduct for data centers recognizes the need to minimize energy loss. It recommends that UPS systems are only operated in their most efficient mode. Despite double conversion mode being recognized as the most reliable currently available, AEG PS have increased efficiency to 96 percent.

Protect Blue promises up to 15 years of operational lifetime. The modular design further enables effective power infrastructure growth as the amount of IT equipment increases. The UPS lineup reduces overall TCO costs by raising UPS efficiency levels across the range.

In another recent announcement in the power protection solutions industry, Riello PCI (News - Alert) India announced the expansion of its range of Master HP series UPS with a new, higher input 600kVA model to deliver enhanced power protection solutions to customers.
