For the past three decades, Minuteman has been spreading the word about its power protection technologies, products that have been sold in more than 100 countries throughout the world. One technology in particular, Minuteman’s PRO-E UPS, has been dubbed the best-selling product line. Recently, Minuteman’s Marketing Communications Specialist Duston Nixon sat down with TMCnet to discuss what makes the power protection product so popular.

TMCnet: Since 1997, this power protection product has been a favorite. What makes it so popular?

Nixon: From the beginning, the PRO Series was designed to be an exceptional “bang for the buck” unit. Dating back to the initial launch in 1997, the units have offered battery capacity that exceeded the competition, at a price that fell in line or often below those units. This meant that users got not only the exceptional protection of Automatic Voltage Regulation, but also longer runtimes or the ability to support a larger load on the same VA rated unit. Users can gain all these things while spending the same or less money.

TMCnet: Who can benefit most from this type of UPS?

Nixon: Like all of our products, the PRO-E is well suited for small to medium sized businesses, which are increasingly focused on stretching their budget without compromising quality or features. The PRO-E offers great power protection thanks to AVR architecture, along with communications capability via USB and RS232 ports, no-charge SentryII management and monitoring software, and independent battery bypass capability which allows it to function even if batteries are dead or removed.

TMCnet: How has the product evolved over the last few years?

Nixon: Since its inception, the PRO series has undergone two rounds of changes that have both increased its capabilities and made sure it continued to meet our customers’ needs. Sizing has been adjusted each time to meet the growing needs of increasingly sophisticated PCs, telephone systems, network equipment, and security equipment.

TMCnet: What makes this stand apart from an APC (News - Alert) unit?

Nixon: We compared the PRO-E to APC’s SC1500, and found that despite being over $100 cheaper based on online end-user pricing, it won many categories of the comparison, while matching the APC in others. Some of the PRO-E advantages include: higher power factor means that the 1500VA unit is good for 1050 watts, versus the SC’s 865; runtimes of 16.4 minutes at 860W and 39.3 at 440 watts, compared to 7.6 and 20.4 minutes with the SC1500; two types of communications ports; and a full three years of warranty coverage that includes the batteries, compared to only two with APC.

TMCnet: What other unique features does the product boast?

Nixon: The most unique aspect of the PRO-E is the amount of “protection per dollar” a user receives when choosing it – AVR, three full years of worry free warranty protection, and larger battery capacity for less mean it’s a fantastic value for our customers.
