Reliable Backup Power: Something Every Piece of Equipment Needs

Enterprises and large data centers are not the only ones that need a source of reliable backup power when something causes a failure in the normal power source. As we continue to move toward a world where Voice over IP (VoIP) makes it possible for many employees to work from home, you will find that a lot more individual systems require enough time to save any open data.

Normally, when most people think of power backup options, the main concern is focused on keeping the computer systems up and running long enough to save the valuable data. There is a lot of other technology being used on a daily basis that also requires constant power in order to function correctly.

Look at the ceiling in any retail store you walk into these days and you will see that familiar red half globe that we have all come to recognize as a security camera.

England seems to have taken this concept to a bit of an extreme with there being about one CCTV (Closed Circuit TV) camera for every 32 people in the U.K. Regardless of the number of cameras they all have two major points in common; First is the fact that they all need a power source, and the second is that they are all attached to a digital video recorder (DVR) of some sort to capture and store all of the information, which itself needs a power source.

So now that we have all of these cameras that offer 360-degree views, infrared night vision and even 4K resolution, how useful are they when the power goes out? Another question you might want to consider is when is this device the most useful? You might find that the answer is during a blackout. The best time to take advantage of a situation is when there is no power to run the security systems.

Minuteman Power Technologies is a company that produces and manufactures uninterruptable power supplies, surge protectors and remote power managers, just to name a few. The company’s feeling, and rightfully so, is that without power, there is no security. According to a blog posting, “A security system failure exposes patrons to danger and leaves business owners and administrators facing extreme liabilities.”

Minuteman has taken the opportunity to make the decision of how to keep your security systems secure simple for everyone. They have come up with a comprehensive listing of UPS solutions that covers a rather extensive variety of common camera and DVR combinations. In fact, they have created a chart that puts together various components and the best method for keeping them powered up. If you are interested you can download it for free at Minuteman CCTV Power Guide Download.

Security is something that is on everyone’s mind. We read about store being broken into, but we also read about home invasions and things happening in hallways to individuals. While most of these places have surveillance camera, if the intruder cuts the power line, you will find that having a power backup option for your camera and DVR systems could be a life saver.
