The Power Outage Doesn't Have to Stop the Show

One of my daughter’s favorite birthday memories is of the year she turned 10 as a massive ice storm hit Northwest Missouri and shut down power for miles around. In our family, we have a tradition that the birthday girl or boy gets to pick the dinner and entertainment for the evening. While this generally entails a trip to the movie theater, the lack of total power protection meant that whole cities in the region were shut down.

What appeared to me to be a poor excuse for a birthday ended up being her favorite memory as we spent the evening playing Uno by candlelight and a roaring fire in the fireplace – the only way to heat our house for the night. In this case, she didn’t let the power outage dampen what should have been a fun celebration. She instead saw it as an adventure that she aimed to recreate the next year (by just turning the lights off).

The same dedication to continue was evident for the East Tennessee children’s choir. The group wouldn’t let a power outage stop its performance. Known as the Sound Company, the choir is based in Oak Ridge and was scheduled to perform its fall concert when power went out at The Grove Theater. The more than 100 singers settled for just a 30 minute delay before taking the stage.

They gave their performance without lights or a sound system. The presentation was aptly named, “Just Sing!” which was more fitting given the challenges of the evening than the group had planned. Without power protection on the equipment to ensure the show could go on as planned, the show went on through modification and they reportedly returned a stellar performance.

We rely on significant power sources to complete tasks on a daily basis and without the right backup plans, we could be left high and dry. We are sometimes taught to improvise, but that isn’t always possible in the corporate environment. If the power goes out, you could lose data, hardware or even a customer. Power protection means more than just keeping the lights on – it means staying in business.

Minuteman delivers a full line of solutions that protect your valuable assets that rely on power to perform. They’re designed to withstand the challenges encountered in the dynamic environment, while also guaranteeing protection. And, when completing a spreadsheet with a roaring fire as your only source of energy isn’t going to work, Minuteman will be sure you’re ready to get back to work when the lights come back on.
