While many parts of the country are preparing for the season’s harvest and enjoying the cooler months of the year, the recent bouts of hurricanes aren’t quite off the radar. According to the National Hurricane Center, hurricane season goes from June 1st and goes all the way until November 30th. Despite the calmer skies and brisk air, hurricane season is not quite at the end of its long and potentially destructive rope.

“With increased temperatures, severe storms are a greater possibility across the country in the spring and summer months, and as summer wears on, the threat of hurricanes becomes a greater concern in coastal areas,” Duston Nixon, marketing communications specialist for Minuteman UPS/Para Systems (News - Alert), a provider of power protection technologies, told TMCnet in a recent report.

“Researchers at Colorado State University are predicting a slightly less active hurricane season than normal, but this still puts the probability for landfall of a major storm at 28 percent for the East Coast alone.”

What does this mean in technology? It means businesses shouldn’t rest on their laurels when it comes to power protection. In addition to regular system backups, companies should seek uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) devices to provide emergency power when power fails. The most obvious advantage of an uninterruptible power supply is, of course, the maintenance of power.

Aside from maintaining power when necessary, UPS prevents data loss and offers surge protection. The UPS automatically switches to AC generated battery power, preventing the spike or surge from harming whatever is connected to it. A UPS also prevents power fluctuations.

Minuteman is a provider of power protection products from Para Systems that are sold in over 100 countries. In fact, the company is offering rebates on varied items – such as UPSs, surge suppressors and PDUs – now through Sept. 30 as this hurricane season nears its end.

“The response to these rebates has been very positive, and we have found that many of our distributor and reseller customers have been able to win business with the pricing advantage they provided,” said Nixon.

One offering in the latest rebate is the PRO-LCD Series Line-Interactive UPS. It is a compact tower UPS featuring automatic voltage regulation. Not only does it offer extra battery capacity but has eight outlets. The three-year warranty includes non-prorated battery coverage.

Minuteman has a full list of products included in the most recent rebate on their website.
