In contrast to noisy, bulky power supply and battery backup units that can typically be housed in out of sight locations, a new line of sleek, FTTx DC power backup desktop models, powered by CyberPower Systems, have emerged.

The power protection models, DT30U12V-NA3 and DT30U12V-NA3-G, offer a rich feature set for all levels of service provider, allow for flexibility of location, and add to the décor of the room, according to company officials.

Designed with the home user in mind, officials say that these compact units are unrivaled in the industry as they can be positioned with other common devices that are often a part of home electronics, wiring and installation.

The units have an input voltage range of 100Vac - 240Vac with a frequency range of 47 - 70Hz. The on-battery output voltage is 12Vdc nominal and runs with continuous power capacity of 30 watts and greater than 75 percent efficiency.

Visual indicators and audible alarm provide the unit status while an improved battery algorithm allows for optimum utilization of battery capacity. It has an Alarm Silence button than can mute the alarm if required and also has an emergency cold start function.

"The new, cost-effective FTTx DC power supply and battery backup is a compact design, brings the advanced features previously only available to the RBOCs to any service provider in an aesthetically pleasing, customer friendly design," said Mark Lewis (News - Alert), senior engineer at CyberPower Systems.

A benefit of the power protection units is that telecom providers can bundle these DC offerings with their cable and telephone triple-play or multi-service packages, enabling them to offer “more services for less.”

Currently, CyberPower has been awarded 90 plus patents, has won numerous industry awards, has achieved ISO 9001 Certification for its state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and products are tested to the United States, Canada and Mexico and meets FCC (News - Alert) Part 15 Category A

In other industry news, Minuteman UPS/Para Systems (News - Alert), a leading provider of power protection units, sat down with TMCnet to shed light on how it ensures that security systems remain up.

“Power protection is perhaps more important for security applications than any other, and that can be traced to two things: safety and liability,” Duston Nixon, marketing communications specialist for Minuteman UPS/Para Systems, told TMCnet. “Business owners and administrators at schools and other facilities have security systems in place to protect their property, and more importantly the people that come and go from their facilities. In the event of a power problem or outage, both people and property are at risk if the system is left unprotected, and the owner of the property can be held liable for any damages that occur.”
