Behlman Electronics, a provider of power protection products for military, industrial, and commercial shipboard, airborne and mobile applications, has been selected by the U.S. Navy to supply its Model 00389 COTS power supplies for airborne anti-submarine and anti-ship surveillance and targeting systems.

A subsidiary of Orbit International, Behlman Electronics manufactures and sells high quality standard, modified standard, custom and COTS power solutions, including AC power supplies, frequency converters, inverters, DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC, and uninterruptible power supplies.

The Model 00389 COTS switch mode power supply is a rugged unit designed for military-grade and high-end industrial applications and is designed to comply with MIL-STD-704A and RTCA-DO160, as well as MIL-Standards 901; 810C; 167; and 461C/D.

“It is testimony to the quality of our standard off the shelf products, that they are able to perform critical military missions at COTS prices,” said Ron Storm, Behlman’s vice president of Marketing and Sales, in a statement. “Even when minor modifications are required to fit military needs exactly, our COTS program saves tax payers the many millions of dollars required for custom designing, engineering and manufacturing.”

“Having recently received an additional order for more of our Model 00389 COTS power supplies from the same customer is further acknowledgement that our power products meet the demanding requirements of the U.S. Military,” Storm added.

Behlman’s Model 00389 units provide eight DC outputs of varying power by accepting input power of 115/200 VAC +/-20% @ 360 to 440 Hz. In addition to the large selection of outputs, the units also provide superb specs for Load and Line Regulation; PARD-Ripple and Noise; Over-voltage Protection; Short-circuit Protection; Current Limit, extreme Operating and Storage Temperatures and high MTBF.

Recently Behlman Electronics announced it won another order from a major national research laboratory to provide a large number of their model BL1350 Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) power supplies. Behlman will modify these COTS power supplies to provide the precise specifications needed to drive filament transformers on large klystron tubes.

In other industry news, Minuteman UPS/Para Systems (News - Alert) is spreading the word that it offers a quick comparison of its PRO1500LCD power protection unit with APC's SC1500 unit. And this month, the company is aggressively promoting its PRO-LCD Series through an email campaign.

“Users comparing the PRO1500LCD to APC’s (News - Alert) SC1500 will find that the Minuteman unit wins out in several areas, beginning with its modern LCD status display that will keep them up to date on the status of both their utility power and the UPS itself,” Duston Nixon, marketing communications specialist for Minuteman, told TMCnet. “Other areas to examine include price, runtime, and warranty coverage – all of which favor the PRO Series.”
