Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) has honored Legrand, a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures, with the product differentiation excellence award in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development.

Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.

"Legrand's ability to build a brand, coupled with its unswerving focus on product differentiation, has enabled it to design products that offer significant value proposition," said Anu Cherian research analyst, Frost & Sullivan, in a statement.

Cherian said that in addition, its success in the UPS market is attributed to its strategic initiatives in providing customized solutions that match the needs of its specific target markets.

Officials with Legrand  pointed out that the company’s modular and scalable power protection products include ARCHIMOD and TRIMOD. The company's focus has been on reducing the need for expensive maintenance and driving down the total cost of ownership.

"Legrand's savings in lifetime costs and unique UPS design by power modules are pertinent to the company's core vision of pursuing new technology," remarked Cherian.

Legrand's UPSs are highly scalable and efficient. Power and battery arrangement are in hot swappable drawers (or modules), which helps the entire system run with high reliability.

Cherian said that a key advantage of such modularity lies in its size as well as weight as measured per power module.

"For example, a 7KVA power module weighs 9 kilograms, making it easy to move, change or be replaced by a single person," he said.

A user-friendly design makes redundant the need for a qualified on-site technician for trouble shooting. An average time-to-repair of close to zero offers a significant advantage in terms of avoiding downtime for backup power equipment.

"Moreover, a unique footprint, weight, system design and modularity support easy customization," said Cherian.

He said that high levels of customization and do-it-yourself servicing design are set to take customer expectations to a new level.

In other industry news, power protection company Minuteman recently had some news it was eager to spread; the PRO-LCD series of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) just got a whole lot better.

Recently, Minuteman sent out an email blast to customers explaining that the PRO-LCD Series UPS now boasts updated features and longer runtimes, among other things.

“The most prominent new feature on the PRO-LCD Series is the LCD status display, a feature which is quickly becoming standard equipment throughout the industry,” Duston Nixon, marketing communications specialist for Minuteman, told TMCnet. “With this display, users can monitor the status of both their utility input power and the UPS’ output power. This is useful when diagnosing problems, and when used in conjunction with our SentryPlus monitoring and management software, gives users a complete real-time look at their power. The display also tells users the status of the UPS, its batteries, and provides estimated runtime that is available should a blackout occur.”
