Are you looking for a comprehensive plan that will detail how you can prevent your business from suffering severe repercussions as a result of a power outage?

Fortunately, power protection leader Minuteman UPS/Para Systems (News - Alert) recently released a white paper  called “Powering Your Business Disaster Planning” which delineates the key components of an all encompassing power protection plan – one which proves failproof during short-term power surges or even extended outages.

“The business community and virtually any other type of organization are highly dependent on continuous, reliable power in order to maintain the availability of servers and network peripherals, telephone systems, and security systems,” commented Bill Allen, director of marketing for Minuteman. “Not much business gets conducted without power, and it’s highly incumbent on these institutions to make sure they have a viable disaster plan in place that includes power availability contingencies.”

Nowadays power problems can come with the blink of an eye as numerous events such as man-made incidents including construction accidents or terrorist attacks, as well as weather-related disasters such as hurricanes, floods, lightning, or earthquakes can render people without power.

While an average outage lasts eight to 10 minutes, the average extended power outage is eight hours.

The Electric Power Research Institute has found that, on average, a one second power outage costs a business $1,477, and the tab for a one hour outage comes to $7,795. Overall, this costs the U.S. economy between $104 and $164 billion annually.

Minuteman’s power protection white paper cites several different research studies and publications from various sources, including the U.S Department of Energy, J.D. Power and Associates, Frost and Sullivan, and the Electric Power Research Institute.

“Our goal in the white paper was to have the reader contemplate and consider the costs and vulnerabilities associated with even the smallest power interruption,” Allen said. “In addition, we have outlined the real value that a comprehensive power backup plan can contribute to business continuity.”

The white paper can be downloaded directly from the Minuteman website. For more information, visit www.minutemanups.com/disasterplanning.
