Last week, TMCnet sat down with power protection leader Minuteman to get all the dirt on its most popular product, the PRO-E UPS. Even though this series has been a customer favorite since 1997, it has received some competition from Minuteman’s other leading power protection product, the Remote Power Manager (RPM).

The RPM series of products from Minuteman allow businesses to remotely control the power to attached devices, which can include network equipment such as wireless access points, switches, or routers, as well as security equipment including cameras and monitoring devices. The two port RPM1521 is Minuteman’s most inexpensive power protection solution, and is ideal for single or dual device locations, according to Duston Nixon, marketing specialists for Minuteman.

“Lockups are a common occurrence with all types of equipment,” Nixon told TMCnet. “Without an RPM, a lockup means sending a technician to the location of the device, which is often in a building across campus, across town, or on the other side of the state. This can be eliminated thanks to the RPM’s web-based control interface, which is accessible from any internet-enabled device including traditional computers, smartphones, and tablets.

“In addition, the RPM can be programmed to ping the device at set intervals, and notify via email or SMS text when a problem occurs,” he added.

One of the best advantages of the RPM series, according to Nixon, is its guaranteed cost savings. The RPM1521 is an extremely cost effective solution and often pays for itself in the first use.

“While a locked device typically requires a trip across town or up a ladder, the RPM allows instant access from anywhere in the world with an internet connection,” Nixon said. “This provides cost savings both directly through lowered gas and vehicle maintenance charges, and indirectly by freeing up technician time that would be spent handling these issues.”

Resellers who include an RPM will quickly enjoy increased profitability of a phone and network system maintenance agreement by decreasing the number of service calls required to keep customers up and running.

So who can benefit most from this product? Any company that is looking to cut costs in an increasingly cost prohibitive world.

“Whether they are an end user or a reseller/integrator, the RPM provides a mean to substantially lower the expenses associated with rebooting locked equipment,” Nixon said.
