As more and more businesses fret that a spontaneous power outage may hit and deny them access to their data centers and information, and possibly cost them thousands in the recovery of data, more companies are working on creating the best power protection systems, like Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), to make disastrous moments less painful.

Eaton, a global leader in power management products and services, recently announced that its award-wining product the BladeUPS system is now available in a preassembled system cabinet designed for easier power cabling access. The BladeUPS Top-Entry Preassembled System simplifies installation for applications without a raised floor environment and serves as a flexible option when facing data center moves, additions or changes, according to the company.

Those companies looking to consolidate their UPSs in order to make UPS management easier and ensure optimal power protection may see the value in Eaton’s (News - Alert) new system, according to officials. Eaton recently worked with Allison-Smith Company, one of the South's leading electrical contracting firms, to specify a UPS for a customer with limited space in its information technology (IT) room.

“Not only did the small footprint of the BladeUPS Top-Entry Preassembled System work well within the space limitations, but because it is a fully integrated cabinet we could easily install it at the end of our customer’s existing cabinet lineup,” said Kevin Dyer, project manager, Allison-Smith Company, in a statement. “Many of our small-to-medium enterprise clients are moving toward the non-raised floor environments and the Top-Entry BladeUPS system gives electricians the flexibility to feed cables overhead when configuration options are constrained.”

Chris Loeffler (News - Alert), product manager, Eaton Power Quality Division, added, “Leading market analysts agree that more and more of today’s IT equipment is being deployed in non-raised floor applications. This trend will continue as higher cooling requirements outstrip the capability of the typical levels delivered in the raised floor setting. These new IT deployments require a scalable power solution that can integrate with a modular air management solution. BladeUPS delivers the highest efficiency with the ability to easily integrate.”

At the end of last year, a survey conducted by Uninterruptible Power Suppliers Ltd found that data center operators’ chief concern is what would happen in the event of a power outage.  Ensuring the best power protection is of the utmost importance for any organizations that rely heavily on IT to support its processes. As captured in a recent Data Center Knowledge report, UPSs have become critical to ensure that all critical systems are protected from power interruptions.
